Overview

About The Project

What started as a fun little side-project, turned into selling a few t-shirts online through The Cotton Bureau and creating custom branded shirts for Filament Creative (where I worked as a designer for 4.5 years) and Filanthropy (Filament's 24 Hour Non-Profit Hackathon). Here’s a close-up look at a few of the designs I’ve worked on.

Let's Camp Shirt

The idea for this shirt came about after a canoe trip that I went on with a couple of my friends in the Haliburton Highlands. I wanted to make a fun, summer-camp-like crest to commemorate what’s now become an annual tradition. Done in three shades of blue, the crest includes a canoe and paddles arranged to create the four points of a compass and various other nods to the great outdoors. I experimented with a variety of different colour combinations but ultimately settled on the version in the different shades of blues.

The shirt was available for sale on The Cotton Bureau website here in a variety of colours and sizes and sold 24 units in 2 weeks - not too bad!

Oh Deer! Shirt

This was one of my first forays into t-shirt design and a really fun project to work on. I set about with really only the idea that I wanted to play around with the shape of a deer’s antlers to see what sorts of interesting shapes I could come up with, and ended up using the symmetry and simplicity of the antlers that I’d created as a jumping off point. The rest of the design is very simple and geometric as a result and most of the elements are made up of very basic shapes. For me, it almost feels a bit art-deco-y.

This was the first shirt that I sold through The Cotton Bureau and it too was available in a variety of different colours and styles here. With some help from friends and family, I sold 27 units in 2 weeks!

Filanthropy Shirt

In October of 2015, Filament hosted its first 24 Hour Non Profit Hackathon. We partnered with Crohn’s & Colitis Canada and developed a landing page with them to help increase awareness about their organization. Though tiring (I think I ended up staying awake for about 36 hours straight), the event was a huge success. I designed the Filanthropy logo and had t-shirts printed for everyone who was involved. The logo itself features an hourglass (symbolic of the time-sensitive nature of the event) with a heart in the top section of the hourglass (symbolic of the love and care that went into the project), and a plus symbol in the bottom section (symbolic of the positive benefit of the initiative).

Filament Team Shirt

Designed with Matt Hryhorsky at Filament, we created this shirt (along with custom branded water bottles, mugs, and notebooks) as part of the Filament employee packages. The design for the shirt is an iconographic nod to the Filament logo and representative of the company’s 4 core values: curiosity, collaboration, courage, and persistence. "Curiosity" is represented by the space motif, "Collaboration" by the series of speech bubbles/conversations, "Courage" by the sword/mountains, and "Persistence" by the map/maze of pitfalls navigated (ultimately leading to success).
